Ductile iron - properties, features and application

Ductile iron - its properties, features and application Cast iron is the most numerous group of foundry iron alloys (Fe). More specifically, they are iron-carbon alloys with a carbon content above 2%, with a maximum content ranging from 3.8% to 6.7%. Today, in turn, we will discuss a special type of cast iron, namely ductile […]

Estimated casting weight - how to calculate it? Formulas and online calculators

Calculating the weight of castings is important for the proper operation of every foundry, even a small and completely hobby one. After all, when choosing a material for your foundry project, you need one that will fit your budget while also fulfilling the functions appropriate for its intended purposes.

How to choose the casting material?

Durability, reliability and good mobility of structures and machines depend to a large extent on the materials from which they were made and their properties. The choice of material from which potential castings will be made is one of the first steps in ensuring the highest quality of components and installations, as well as a satisfactory final result. Want to know how to choose a casting material?

What is the difference between cast steel and cast iron?

Foundry is one of the most common technologies for producing objects - specifically castings - from metals, their alloys and other materials. Metal is the basic material used in the construction of structures, machines, devices and tools. After all, it is a durable substance that is resistant to damage and has good machinability. Although the metal itself is very hard, it can be machined with alloying additives to give it ductility. And so, when iron is combined with carbon altogether, we get cast steel and cast iron. What are the differences between cast steel and cast iron? What are their properties, advantages and applications? We invite you to read the article from our Foundry Knowledge Base.

Furan masses in foundry

Furan masses are currently one of the most developing branches of synthetic resins usage. However, they are not a new invention. Binders based on furfuryl resins, commonly known as furan resins, are said to be used as a component of molding sands as early as 1958. From this article you will learn what is the molding mass, how are furan sands used in the foundry, what are the disadvantages of furfuryl pulps, how their use relates to ecology.
